To be honest, if a dozen or so ultra-nationalist Jews decided to perpetrate a 9/11 type attack in a foreign country that I was visiting, I'd want to get the hell out as fast as I could just in case people wanted to go on a Jew hunt. I imagine that the bin-Laden family and other Saudis that were allowed to leave the U.S. after 9/11 felt the same way. I am of course assuming that they were innocent of any ties to Osama - and no one has claimed anything other than that.

Nevertheless, conspiracy theorists and Bush haters still believe there's some kind of cover up going on as evidenced by this Op-Ed piece in the NY Times today.

The Great Escape

We knew that 15 out of 19 hijackers were Saudis. We knew that Osama bin Laden, a Saudi, was behind 9/11. Yet we did not conduct a police-style investigation of the departing Saudis, of whom two dozen were members of the bin Laden family. That is not to say that they were complicit in the attacks.

So we should have interrogated innocent people because they were related to a criminal? Can you imagine if that were standard police procedure?
