Lies from the Associated Press:

In an article entitled Australia Leader Says U.S. Misled Him the Associated Press "reports" the following:

CANBERRA, Australia (AP) -- Australian Prime Minister John Howard on Tuesday blamed Washington for misinforming him about the Iraqi prisoner abuse scandal and denied lying to the public or misleading Parliament.

Speaking to reporters before leaving on a trip to the United States, where he will discuss Iraq with President Bush, Howard said U.S. Defense Department bureaucrats had failed to brief him on the abuse.

``I am very unhappy that I've been misinformed,'' Howard said. ``We're dealing here with what was clearly an inadequate briefing.''

This is quite simply, a lie. This is what Howard actually said according to the press conference transcript:

PRIME MINISTER:

Let me say this – I am very unhappy that I was misinformed by the Defence Department, so is the Defence Minister. I have, as you know, an extremely high regard for the men and women in the Australian Defence Force.

If somehow you think this isn't clear enough that he wasn't referring to the U.S. Defense Department at all, go and read the rest of the transcript prior to those remarks.
