Did you know...Berlin was already providing financial assistance to Iraq and training Iraqi troops and police officers in the United Arab Emirates.

I was under the impression that Germany was not assisting us with Iraq at all. Does that mean their involvement doesn't count because their soldiers aren't at risk "in country"?

I didn't miss the point of the article - just the opposite - I was surprised that what I mentioned about Germany's current involvement is buried at the end of the article.

Also, as opposed to the Germans' previous statements specifically mentioning that whether Bush or Kerry is elected there will be no change in policy (or it will have no effect on policy?), the (liberal?) author of this article ASSUMES that the comments are directed at the American electorate to convince them to vote for John Kerry.

Regardless, don't think Germany is going to send troops without some quid pro quo.
