Just a general commentary on the tsunami tragedy and God.

There are many who are wondering where God was, or how could God let this happen, or God wasn't fair to the people who suffered. Or perhaps this tragedy should remind us that there is no God.

In order to think any of this you have to make the assumption that the tsunami was somehow a unique demonstration of evil or neglect by the Deity.

Without minimizing the horror that happened to so many and so fast, one should keep in mind that around 200,000 people die every day from various causes, most of them natural. No one's time to die is the "right" time and just about everyone on earth (minus one) dies at an earlier age than everyone else on the planet. It doesn't matter whether you die at 19 or 99 years of age, you could have been "granted" a longer stay.

The tsunami alone cannot act as proof that God does or doesn't exist, or that He is evil or neglectful. Thousands of babies die every day due to illness and starvation. Thousands more die in totally preventable accidents, or war, or due to famine - the list is endless. None of these people would die in a perfect world, but the world is not meant to be perfect.

In other words, whatever you think about God or Justice, the tsunami should not cause you to change your mind. The victims may have died before their time and in an unexpected manner, but so will you, dear reader, so will you. God, or no God.
